Livingstone Brown was established over twenty five years ago by Gerard Brown, the firm's current senior partner, and Robert Livingstone (who retired from the firm five years ago, and is now an advocate).  Initially the firm had one office and a handful of administrative staff.  Over time, the firm has grown into one of Scotland's largest, with six offices and almost twenty lawyers.

The firm's head office is in Carlton Place in Glasgow.  Carlton Place is an historic cobbled street, over two hundred years old.  The attractive stone terraces contrast with the modern building at number 1 - the city's Sheriff Court, which is believed to be the busiest in Europe, and the third busiest in the world.  Livingstone Brown is located at the other end of the street, at number 84.  The large offices, located over two levels, include three departments: criminal, civil and asylum & immigration.

The firm's other offices are all located around the Glasgow area.  The longest established is in Springburn, in the north of the city.  In common with the Easterhouse office (at the eastern tip of Glasgow), Springburn is located in an area of intensive urban renewal.  The firm's presence in the south side of the city is at Riverford Road, between Pollokshaws and Shawlands.  Shettleston was added to the list of offices in 2001, with the doors of Scotstoun being opened on 1 September 2006.

All of the branch offices are busy enterprises in their own right, each having a number of solicitors and administrative staff.  As a general rule, at least one solicitor is available in each office at any time, so new clients can often be seen without an appointment.  However, making an appointment first avoids the risk of disappointment.
