Legal Aid

Livingstone Brown are one of the country's largest providers of legal aid services.  The legal aid system is complex.  There are various forms of legal aid, each with their different rules and eligibility criteria.  Depending on what kind of case you have, you may well need to apply for two different types of legal aid: advice and assistance for the early work, and full legal aid for when the case reaches court.

The legal aid system in Scotland is operated by the Scottish Legal Aid Board.  The Board's website provides more information about the system, and in particular the rules for financial eligibility.  As a general rule, if you are on state benefits, you will probably qualify; if you have a low income, you may qualify; if you have a higher income, you almost certainly won't.  For a free check of whether you are likely to qualify, contact us on 0141 429 8166 or e-mail frances@livbrown.co.uk.
