The Specialist Litigation Team was instructed in a matter to seek to bring a private prosecution on behalf of a complainer who reported allegations of historic sexual abuse. The
Scottish Ministers exceptionally granted legal aid funding, allowing this case to be raised. The team made submissions at the hearing on a Bill for Criminal Letters in October 2024.
Although ultimately unsuccessful, the team came close to bringing the first private prosecution in Scotland since the 1980s.
