Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA)

The Independent Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) was established in 2015, as a Statutory Inquiry to look into the scale of Child Sexual Abuse in England and Wales, and to make recommendations for the future. IICSA is currently chaired by Professor Alexis Jay OBE.

IICSA has a number of areas which it is investigating. Once of its cases studies related to Child Sexual Abuse within the Roman Catholic Church. In 2018 Livingstone Brown were instructed by a passionate campaigner, and a survivors charity to represent their interests at IICSA.

Both the campaigner and charity had been given what IICSA terms Core Participant Status. This entitled them to be represented at the Inquiry, and to make submissions to assist the Inquiry.

The campaigner and charity were represented by the associate in our Personal Injury Department, Robbie Brodie.

In November 2019, Mr Brodie represented the campaigner and charity at a two-week public hearing in London making opening and closing speeches to the inquiry, thus ensuring the voices of those most harmed by sexual abuse were heard. Mr Brodie found this to be one of the most rewarding aspects of his career, ensuring that the most vulnerable were given a voice, after years of being ignored. We hope that IICSA will make strong recommendations which will prevent such abuse from taking place again.
