Karen Steedman V. East Lothian Council – Dispute About Disability

A formidable legal team, your trusted partner

Karen Steedman V. East Lothian Council

We represented Ms. Steedman in relation to a complex claim of disability discrimination against her former employer, East Lothian Council.  Matters were contested in the case to the extent that it was even disputed as to whether our client possessed the disability at all.

Through our careful preparation and effective use of medical evidence, we were able to establish that KS was disabled and entitled to the protection that that protected characteristic brings in terms of the Equality Act 2010.   Medical evidence was also obtained to show that our client has suffer PTSD due to the treatment she had experienced. Thereafter, at the full hearing about the issue of liability (whether the claim should succeed or not), through our skilled representation of our client’s interests we were able to secure success for her in relation to each of her unfair dismissal, harassment, and two separate grounds of disability discrimination claims.  A decision in relation to remedy is awaited with the claim potentially worth several hundred thousand pounds.
