Christie Allan is an Associate within Livingstone Brown’s Specialist Litigation Team and is based in the Glasgow office. Christie was recently promoted in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to the firm thus far (including as a key contributor to the firm being announced as ‘Criminal Law Firm of the Year’ at the Herald Law Awards 2024), and the pivotal role she continues to play in the firm’s representation of clients in high-profile and complex legal matters. Her personal approach and nature enables her to build and nurture strong client relationships and she prides herself in providing quality legal advice and client care.
Christie is a graduate of the University of Dundee, where she obtained First Class Honours in her Bachelor of Laws Scots and English Dual Qualifying Degree and obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. She joined Livingstone Brown in 2022 having trained at an international commercial law firm at which she gained well-rounded experience working on high value matters for a variety of clients in different areas of law such as corporate, banking, commercial litigation and employment. Upon qualifying as a solicitor in September 2021, Christie worked within the commercial litigation team prior to joining Livingstone Brown.
Christie is an accomplished solicitor and notary public and specialises in representing individuals in matters arising from and relating to both criminal and civil litigation. She has a microscopic eye for detail which is derived from her experience in investigating and progressing complex cases (primarily relating to allegations of financial crime), including defending civil recovery proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, and in the preparation of civil cases which are closely connected to criminal allegations. She has experience in instructing Counsel in the High Court of Justiciary and in the Court of Session, as well as appearing herself to represent clients in the Sheriff Court, and at police interviews.
Christie also has a particular interest in Public Inquiry work and over the past year she has worked extensively on the Post Office Horizon IT Public Inquiry, representing Susan Sinclair, a Core Participant in the Public Inquiry. Christie was at the forefront of oral questions presented to pertinent witnesses at Inquiry hearings in London, with her questioning of former Post Office boss, Paula Vennells, reported by the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-69056259#lx-commentary-top. Throughout Phases 4 to 7 of the Inquiry, Christie’s questions highlighted the miscarriages of justice that Postmasters across Scotland were subjected to as a result of faulty evidence from the Post Office’s Horizon IT system, and, drawing upon all of the questions that she presented to witnesses throughout the Inquiry, she was instrumental in the preparation of written and oral submissions presented by the firm on behalf of Ms Sinclair at the closing of Phases 4, 6 and 7. Demonstrating unwavering commitment to those who have suffered due to the wrongdoing of the Post Office, Christie continues to represent numerous Scottish Postmasters who were impacted by the scandal, advocating for their cause and assisting them now to seek redress and fair compensation.
Additionally, Christie has contributed to several articles published by Scottish legal outlets and has been interviewed by journalists interested in her work.
