Forida joined Livingstone Brown in July 2022 working in the family and private client team, as well as the employment team. Forida graduated from Edinburgh Napier University gaining her LLB (Hons) degree. Thereafter, she obtained her Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from The University of Edinburgh.

Forida developed a passion for family law and has a keen desire to help clients affected by family break-up. She has significant insight into the difficulties faced by separating couples and their children, and always deals empathically with family law clients.

Forida gained valuable experience of court proceedings prior to commencing her traineeship, both through appearing as a lay representative at child welfare hearings, and through her work as a shorthand writer which involved attending various Sheriff courts across Scotland and noting down proceedings.

During her studies, Forida volunteered as a student advisor for her university’s Free Legal Advice Centre, providing advice to a client in a complex employment case against NHS Lothian.

Throughout her traineeship, Forida has demonstrated an ability to effectively balance her work, working simultaneously in the family and private client team, as well as in the employment team. 

Forida deals with family disputes, guardianships, and the division of matrimonial property. She has been involved in drafting court papers, taking client and witness statements, and carrying out relevant research into case-law and legislation.

In the employment team, she assists in a range of matters including discrimination, unfair dismissal, sexual harassment, whistleblowing and determining employee status. She gained considerable experience assisting and researching rules and regulations in relation to HGV drivers. She has experienced advocacy by taking formal notes of tribunal hearings and assisting counsel.

Alongside her two practice areas, Forida was involved in the Will Aid scheme, which the firm has participated in for a number of years. She gained experience of drafting simple and complex Wills.

Forida appreciates the variety of work she has been involved in since commencing her traineeship. She is friendly, approachable and down to earth. In her spare time, Forida enjoys painting, cycling and spending time with her family.  She recently took part in the Great Scottish Run alongside her colleagues, raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice.

Forida is fluent in Bengali, Urdu and Hindi.
