Gillian Russell qualified as a Solicitor in 2012, having graduated from the University of Edinburgh.  She trained in criminal defence and thereafter specialised in Mental Health Law for a number of years before joining Livingstone Brown in 2020.  Gillian is an Associate within our Child Protection Practice Unit whilst continuing to provide a service to clients requiring advice and representation in relation to Mental Health legislation. 

Gillian’s level of post qualified experience displays a proven track record of providing indispensable advice to clients in sensitive areas of legal practice.  She prides herself on her commitment to excellent client care and is approachable and empathetic in her manner.  Gillian is known for her confident and effective advocacy skills whilst representing clients at Court, Tribunals and Hearings, often being commended by others.

Gillian has a keen interest in representing child and adolescent clients, with experience of representing young patients within the CAMHS and Eating Disorder services.  She now thrives on the opportunities to engage with young clients within the Children’s Hearing System and is dedicated to ensuring their views are heard and legal rights protected.  Gillian has also been involved in the provision of legal training to third party organisations and continues to maintain excellent working relationships with advocacy services across Scotland to assist in providing support  to those most vulnerable and in need of legal assistance.
