Claire Thomas joined Livingstone Brown in September 2023 as an Associate in the Family Law Practice Area. She graduated from the Univerity of Strathclyde in 2006 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2008. Prior to pursuing a career in law, Claire spent 10 years as a Lecturer in Corporate Finance and Business Law at the University of Stirling and Edinburgh Napier University, having completed an MBA in Finance at the University of Stirling in 1990.

Claire has practised in Family Law and Civil Litigation since she qualified and spent 5 years at the Scottish Bar practising in Family and Employment Law before returning to Private Practice in 2016. She has extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of Family law including financial provision in high net-worth divorce cases in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session, cohabitation claims, complex residence/contact disputes and relocation cases. She is regularly instructed to prepare separation agreements as well as pre and post-nuptial agreements. She has represented numerous clients in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session.

In addition to her Family Law experience, she is regularly instructed by clients facing 'fitness to practice' investigations by professional regulatory bodies and provides representation at hearings and tribunals.

 As a Family Law practitioner, Claire is sensitive to the fact that clients find themselves in difficult and traumatic situations and is committed to providing clear pragmatic advice in a compassionate and approachable manner to ensure that her clients have the knowledge and understanding to make important decisions about their family's future.

Claire has acquired strong litigation skills over the course of her career but appreciates that for many clients court action should be a last resort particularly where a dispute concerns the welfare of the parties' children. Claire will always aim to resolve matters by negotiation to achieve a workable resolution.
